It is a project of specialization and territorial competitiveness (PECT) focused on the field of tourism.

It is part of the Girona Provincial Council’s campaign on specialization projects and territorial competitiveness: “PECTs in Girona, smart territory”

The PECT are the projects of specialization and territorial competitiveness proposed by the local administrations. These are initiatives, promoted by local agents and led by local public entities (provincial councils, town councils, county councils), which articulate projects with operations and actions for the economic transformation of the territory and which have a strong innovation component. They contribute to the priorities and objectives of the RIS3CAT (Intelligent Development Strategy of Catalonia) and the Operational Program (OP) FEDER of Catalonia 2014-2020; they have the participation of the social and economic network, and have an impact on the competitiveness of the territory.

The aim of the “Nature, culture and network intelligence” project is to improve tourist destinations on the Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees by introducing new technologies and enhancing the road network and cultural and natural heritage. .

It will connect the whole of Girona, its roads, paths and trails, both on the map and on the ground. For this reason, they are adapting, signposting and creating routes on foot and by bicycle from one side of the Girona region to the other.

This project will make the natural and cultural heritage known, especially the most unknown, and will facilitate access to it. It will be done by putting on the table a sustainable offer and accessible to all, and with new technologies as a mainstay both to get information and to access easily.

All this will serve to encourage economic activity around heritage and roads, as new products will be created to reach new markets, deseasonalize the tourist offer and differentiate Girona from other destinations.

Targets

  • The creation of a network of Smart and Accessible Paths.
  • The creation of a series of proposals to make the cultural and natural heritage more accessible and to facilitate its interpretation to tourists.
  • The design and implementation of a more efficient management model for tourist destinations that incorporates the active participation of agents and the development of open innovation tools. At the same time, an interface will be developed designed to improve the tourist experience once they are in the territory.
