Description

The parish church of Talltorta dates from the 17th century and has a rectangular plan with a single nave and three side chapels. Archaeological work has documented several phases of construction. A first phase testifies to the presence of a semicircular apse earlier than the current one and could belong to the unlocated Romanesque church of Santa Fe de Talltorta. The second documented phase is that of the time of construction of the current building, dated 1667.

The artistic jewel of the building are the mural paintings of Sant Climent de Talltorta, from the 18th century, and declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest. From an unknown artist, using the tempera technique, they completely cover walls and vaults with a rich and extensive repertoire of floral and architectural themes and motifs, as well as representations of biblical scenes. These paintings are an example of the use of art as a doctrinal and visual instrument for the illiterate population. The message is the salvation of the human soul, resolved with an artisanal tone that gives it a unique singularity and charm.
