Description

Exceptional building for its large size and fortified appearance. Also to be located on the remains of the ancient Roman forum of Iulia Lybica, whose structures are said to have been used as the foundation of the church.

The Gothic-style building has a square floor plan, with a large central nave and the sides subdivided into chapels. It is built of local stone (slate) of small size and irregular shape bound with lime. It should be noted that the supply area for this type of stone is very close, Dorres, but it also comes from the castle destroyed in 1479. The main façade would be at the foot of the church framed between the two towers. It is a rather austere, renaissance façade, built later in the church and entirely made of granite. From the interior of the church stands the vault of creuria where the arches rest on permodules and the ribs are closed in vault keys, where the Virgin of the Angels, the heraldry of the Descatllar family and others are represented. historiated keys. There are tombstones in the middle of the central aisle of the nave. They are a total of thirteen with a chronology that goes from the 15th to the 19th century and belong to the old families of the town. The organ is located in the fifth chapel, at noon; It was built at the end of the 20th century by Casa Blancafort following the Catalan design.

Also noteworthy is the carving of the Holy Christ of Llívia, from the 13th century, by an unknown author. Another element is the large altarpiece of the Castilian school from the Jesuits of Logroño located on the high altar. Its iconography represents the mysteries of joy of the Virgin, and the sides show the visitation of the Virgin and the Annunciation, dating from 1750.
